The Upper Delaware is a fertile tailwater fishery harboring wild rainbow, brown, and a few brook trout--many reaching trophy size.  From Callicoon downriver, the warm water species begin to take hold.

From the colorful native trout and the feisty smallmouth bass to the trophy walleyes and the sea-run American Shad, the waters of this river are as diverse as any in the Northeast.

The Fishing Season

Where?
All float fishing trips take place on the upper Delaware River System.  This includes the East and West branches and the main stem from Hancock to Sparrowbush encompassing over 100 miles of floatable and fishable waters.

When & What?
Starting on April 1st we have prime time for spinning and streamer fishing for big brown trout.  This can continue for a month or longer.  American sea-run shad (2-8 lbs.) begin to show up around mid to late April and are a fantastic sport fish on spinning and fly tackle.  May and June are prime time months for the dry fly anglers interested in pursuing trout.  Trout fishing remains good on this tailwater river system thru the entire year in the upper reaches.  July, August, and Sept. are the months for smallmouth bass.  It is not uncommon to land 50 to 75 fish a day during this period.  A few walleye, channel catfish, stripers, & panfish will also appear in the net at this time.  October and November finds trout fishing picking up and also is prime time for walleye.
